I found a study from IEEE on popularity of programming languages. I note:

  • The languages I use are in the top 10 ( R , C)
  • C is always use in many
  • scripts languages are widly used (you can find a shell or a python inerpreter on almost every machine, form the tinyest RAm architecture to the multiprocessor x86  including some routers)
  • the script languages I know are in the top 20 (python, shell) (I should write sh and not shell)
  • I’ll continue to use C as I feel confortable with it and it is always used
